Khar
Liang (Bass)
Khar Liang finds immense pleasure in being the foundation of the many groups he
has sung with.
With no formal training (but plenty of gusto), he started his musical journey by
joining the Stanford University Singers in 1997, singing a range of choral
music. He moved on to experiment with a cappella, joining the Stanford Harmonics
in 1998 and becoming their business manager a year later. With the Harmonics, he
recorded the album “Insanity Laughs”, nominated for the “Best Mixed Collegiate
Album” Contemporary A Cappella Recording Award (CARA) in 2000. He also toured
the East and West Coasts of the U.S. with the Harmonics, performing at various
campuses around the country. In his final year at college, he also stage managed
and vocally directed a production of the Gershwin musical “Crazy for You”.
Upon his return to Singapore, he revisited his roots in choral music by joining
the Singapore Youth Choir (SYC), with whom he has performed in various concerts
and a choral festival in Spain. He has also been a featured soloist with Action
Theatre. He currently sings bass with local a cappella groups Tic Tac Tone and
UpBeat.
Significant projects with Tic Tac Tone include singing for the Opening Festival
of the Esplanade, a full length concert in 2003 at DBS Arts Auditorium, opening
for American a cappella group Ball in the House, and a masterclass with the
House Jacks.
